Definitions provides personal training services in small, "high - end" gyms. The company owns and operates three facilities in New York City located at 19 Union Square West, 133 East 58th Street, and 39 East 78th St. Definitions has about 45 staff members. Definitions is the nation`s pioneering firm in the personal training field and has been in operation since 1983.

Definitions trainers are knowledgeable in fitness and exercise programming on both a theoretical and practical basis; they are sensitive and therefore good communicators; they have an ongoing love of exercise and sport; and they are team players.

A BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a Definitions trainer, responsibility comes quickly. Among the tasks trainers perform are:
Design individualized, goal-oriented training sessions (approximately 55 minutes long)
for each client, based on his or her fitness objectives and capabilities.
Assure all exercises are done with proper form and technique maximizing results.
Constantly assist and supervise clients on every aspect and during every minute of
their workout.
Motivate clients to work to his/her maximum and safe potential for the entire workout,
providing physical and psychological assistance, support and encouragement.
Help clients develop realistic, attainable goals, continually modifying training objectives, and assessing progress toward these goals.
Definitions professionals have a responsibility to maintain leadership in the field of exercise prescription. The principles and theories behind fitness, exercise, and basic rehabilitation techniques are a main component of our professional responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
All potential candidates must have a degree in exercise physiology or an exercise science field and have practical experience in the field of personal fitness training. Additionally, Definitions requires all candidates to have current CPR certification.
All potential trainers should have the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Health Fitness Specialist certification. Any individual who does not already have this certification, will be required to prepare for the test within six to twelve months of employment. Definitions prepares all of its trainers for the exam through an extensive eight week course.
Definitions only hires individuals interested in full time employment and does not allow free-lance trainers to use its facilities.
ORIENTATION:
As a new team member, trainers will go through several weeks of compensated orientation and training. Anatomy, exercise physiology, fitness testing, and marketing skills are a few of the areas we touch on.
